A national campaign: Petition for the ‘Status of the Miners’ in Albania
One year from its establishment, the Trade Union of United Mineworkers of Bulqiza (SMBB) launched a national campaign to sign a petition requesting the Status.
For nearly three decades, every political party, whether in power or opposition as well as the old, corrupt trade unions have promised to give the mineworkers a legal status, which would allow for special treatment of the mineworkers. During the last three decades, over 15 professions have acquired and benefited from such status, except the mineworkers, even if the work they do is amongst the most hazardous to life and health.
On November 23, 2020, one year from its establishment, the Trade Union of United Mineworkers of Bulqiza (SMBB) launched a national campaign to sign a petition requesting the Parliament and the Government the legal approval of the ‘Status of the Miners’ (the Status). The status contains four major demands:
Life insurance
An increase in wages and other benefits
An increase in pensions benefits
Guaranteeing special health care for miners and former miners
The campaign for the petition is now taking place in all parts of the country where there are active mine shafts. If you want to support the petition campaign of the SMBB, please donate at:
